A 2-day, learn-by-doing workshop for people new to communication assistance. The goal is to better understand assistive communication methods, standards, practices, and ethics through dialogue, role-playing, and simulations. Workshops are held once or twice a year in Syracuse, and can be held elsewhere upon request. It is not necessary to be working directly with an established augmentative communication user or potential candidate to attend this workshop, although they are welcome.

The ICI will hold Skill Building Saturdays, an opportunity for typers and their support personnel to practice specific skills necessary for typing. ICI Trainers Sheree Burke and Srilata S. will welcome typers and their teams and focus on building and maintaining rhythm, fading support and problem-solving through difficult moments. These sessions are designed for participants who already attended the ICI Introductory Training Workshop. It’s a great way for teams to enjoy one-on-one attention from ICI trainers and work through specific typing challenges. There is a nominal fee charged for these sessions.
